JB Move Analyzer

$6+

JB Move Analyzer allows you to translate midi clip notes or audio clip warp markers into the step and percentage locations for the Ableton Move.

Got a drum break and love the timing of the kicks and snare? Got a midi clip with great groove? This device translates the location of Midi Notes or Warp Markers into Ableton Move step locations, so you can play, nudge and swap samples to your hearts content on your Ableton Move.

How to use:

  1. Select a Midi or Audio clip in clip view
  2. Set the Loop Area to be analysed (up to 16 bars long). You can move the loop bracket if you want to change the analysed area.
  3. If a Midi Clip, just click the analyse button - it will then show the step locations of the active Midi notes. It will ignore any deactivated notes.
  4. If an Audio Clip, you will need to add some warp markers to the transients you want to analyse. Listen to the clip and add Warp Markers to the transients you want to detect. Either double click the transparent markers to activate them into Warp Markers, or add new warp markers by double clicking.

Pro Tips:

  • Try changing the bar length setting on the Move Analyser from 1/16 to 1/32 or 1/64 for better resolution on the Step location
  • When adding warp markers to an Audio clip, if the transparent marker is not quite in the right place, hold down shift and click drag the transparent marker to the right location, then double click it to active the warp marker.
  • You can steal the timing from all sorts of elements. Try Stem separation on a song, then steal the timing of the Kick/Snare/Hat or the timing of the Bass notes. Try turning a drum break into midi first, then run the Move Analyser on the new midi clip. Try turning the kick and snare off and stealing the hat timing.
  • Check out Slynks video on Septuplet swing, create your own sick midi clip groove, then translate the timing to the Move: https://youtu.be/3-xIfb9rT_8
  • Stem seperate a J Dilla track, get the drum clip, add your warp markers to the kicks, analyse, then add them to your Move track.

Notes:

  • Works on clips in clip view (Session View), not in arrangement view.

Enjoy! Please leave a rating and any feedback you have - I'm always looking for ways to improve this device.
